You want your site to show up on the 1st two pages of the search results. In order to get that to happen, your site needs to successfully pass two kinds of assessment:
- From the Internet users (visitors and clients), generally referred to as the Target Audience (TA)
- From the analytics systems of the search engines you’re interested in
But it’s a vicious circle: your TA needs to like your website for the analytics system to put you in the search results, and the analytics system needs to put you in the search results for the TA to know that you exist (and then like you). That’s why every website owner needs SEO for a new website or for a site which they want to make a profit.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the way to get to the summit of the search engine mountain i.e. the 1st page and the lead positions on it. At first glance, getting there might not seem that difficult a task, since you’ve already worked on your TA portrait and imagined what it wants to find and buy.
Let’s take a tea kettle as an example. Your TA might search for:
- its meaning
- its characteristics
- places to buy one
- additional ways to use it, etc.
The right keywords combined with “tea kettle” will lead your TA to you. But you also need to know exactly how the analytics system of the specific search engines (Google, Yahoo, Yandex, etc.) work. If you don’t, you may risk:
- using useless keywords
- choosing too many keywords
- ordering and posting useless content
- becoming an “irrelevant” “robot” to the search engine
